The scientific symposium of CSL Behring at the congress took place on May 5th and focused on the importance of timely establishing the right diagnosis and therapeutic concept in patients with chronic obstructive lung diseases.
The symposium was chaired by Prof. Franziska Trudzinski (Heidelberg) and Prof. Rembert Koczulla (Schoenau). It opened with a systematic overview of differential diagnoses in patients with chronic obstructive lung diseases by experienced practicing pulmonologist Dr. Alexander Rupp (Stuttgart).
When the correct diagnosis has been ascertained, next step is to devise a therapeutic concept for the patient. Prof. Trudzinski in this respect provided the attending clinicians with guiding principles to devise an individualized therapy to address different needs of patients with Asthma, COPD, and AATD.

Prof. Koczulla then focused firstly on options for prevention and secondly on concepts for pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with chronic obstructive lung diseases.
The broad thematic focus of the symposium as well as the differential diagnostic considerations regarding AATM as a possible cause of obstructive pulmonary disease aroused great interest among general practitioners and internists. 80 attendees were present f2f and 182 listened in via live stream.
